Evaluation of our shoot day

Music Promo - evaluation of shoot day

Me behind the scenes of the shoot day!

To help us be completely equipped for the actual day of the shoot , me and my production group stayed later on Friday in the studio setting up our first set which is the (band). When we were setting up our agreed layout of what we planned it to look like for the band , we were deciding on the choice of the brick wall. Since the brick wall was not a real brick wall it was made out of latex , there were two colours on either side. One in which was a light grey and another which was a dark red fused with the colour of brown. We had decided on the grey brick wall side of the latex sheet , because it would reflect nicely off the lights and appear to be more luminous because the band setting is in shaded more dim lighting, were the brick in the background wont really be able to be seen. So we had chosen on the lighter one because it also helps our audience to understand the setting/location of our band which is (underground). While we were clipping the brick wall to the studio boards, i also went hunting for a electric piano in the music department, since before we have been struggling to locate some instruments.Luckily i found one , and the media department had a drum set and i had previously asked (Philip) our guitarist in the music video to bring in his own electric guitar since he has one and knows how to play that specific instrument. After we set up the brick wall as a background we were given these spray paints that were coloured in a brown/ light brown colour. We used it these spray paints on the brick walls to add a more underground grunge effect. Then afterwards we added tissue paper and brown coloured paper onto the brick wall to add a more 4D effect and make it look like a more dirty and untidy underground sewage.Me and tori also looked for a 4th model since our original 4th model dropped out of the music video in very late notice so we had to find another model immediately , luckily we found a theatre student called eElise who was more than willing to be in our music video. after we accomplished the final decorating i felt the set had been assembled well and ready for our Monday shoot. when it became prior Monday morning i felt certain and convinced that the shoot day was going to go as planned. Before i went to the studio i brought my 2 dressers and 2 high heels plus makeup. I brought these items just in case any of our shoot day dressers broke or the models needed a size bigger for the footwear.

And lastly Makeup and spray was for the models just in case they forgot to bring their own. Before we could start shooting we had too do the models hair and makeup , even though they were not needed till after lunch we still wanted to get the models assembles and ready for when they were needed. we also gave the band their costume which was a different coloured T-shirts and blue jeans with black shoes, so that they were ready instantly so we could start shooting as soon as possible. We started shooting at 9.30 am so we had started on time and everything had gone to plan. On the day of the shoot day the set for our band embodied exactly how we envisaged it. It had dim dark cold blue and turquoise colours reflecting off the lights and then the brick wall echoed nicely off the lights creating a complimenting contrast between the two. We had a small sub theme of cold blue colours which went with the drum kit since that was cold blue colour too. Then when we stated rolling the camera the lights would gently flick on and off with the music , which created a clear music visualisation for our target audience. Then when we shot the lead with the models the set had changed but not completely some elements were the same. For example For the set we still had the grey brick wall , however we had different lighting that came across as more luminous , such as we had pink, red, gold lighting for the 2nd set and then we changed the mise en scene through the character positioning of the lead singer , (before he was singing and holding the microphone) this time he was was siting down on a dark leather chair that had sculls on either side of the chair pillars. And he was wearing a suite instead , ( than before he was wearing a t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans).

There was a platform form from were he was sitting with cold blue smoke dispersing underneath the platform that added a more grunge (cool) atmosphere to this set , which was what we wanted. Then for our third element / set we had just the models. So therefore we had manipulated the change of mise en scene with the lights and character positioning. For example now we had each individual model siting on top of the chair posing by themselves and moving around in different posses on the chair with the gobo black and white lights. On the day of the shoot i played the part of artistic director  for our first set (the band) , though doing this role it involved being in charge of the mise en scene of the shoot day for the first element / set , there for i was instructing our band memebers on what to wear and and the props that were involved in this set. For the second set ( the lead singer with the models) i was director. This incorporated being in charge of the models and the choreography of their posing and instructing them specifically what to do so that we have the end result we envisaged. I this being the director of the 2nd set was more were my expertise lye. What i mean by that is that my strenghs naturally lye in the area of directing since i feel i have a creative eye and can with my dance training that i have been doing from a young age , i feel as though choreography for the models was when i was in my element,  and how i had  particularly  did well on the day. The only problems we had on the shoot day was that one of our models dripped out unexpectedly with short notice so a day before the shoot day we hunted down some models. We found one but we were worried that she may not be able to make the shoot day , so on the day we found her and checked that if she could definitely come to the shoot and we had to excuse her from class and make sure she had a blue card. But we had managed to get that sorted before we started rolling the camera at 9.30. another problem we had is that we went a little bit over time, meaning we were supposed to end at 3.00pm but ended instead at 4.00. So in the end we ended up running an hour late. although we managed to capture all the camera shots we planned on doing so it was worth it going over-time.The part that i cherished the most out of the hole shoot day was being the role of the director of the models and doing their makeup and hair and staging out the band and the models on the set (directing them) this was an element that i loved and would want to do again. In the edited version of the music video i am looking forward to seeing the quick cut editing between the models and the lead singer with the band i think it will look powerful and artistic especially with the flicking lights which creates music visualisation for the audience. since we had a little sculls on the leather chair that we hired for the lead singer to sit on , we have decided that for the albulm and website we may play with the skull theme and use that idea for the website and digiback . I feel as a production group we thrived very splendidly as a group. For example we all did roles that played to our strengths  of the day , so we all felt confident and had no quarries on the shoot day with each other. Personally i think we have learnt to communicate with our actors more of what we want from them so that nobody drops out inconveniently on the day.
