A female soloist with a 1970’s glam rock style similar to ABBA but with a modern twist that she has created in her own style.  She is vocally original and does not sound like other artists.

The Concept

The world is a blank canvas to be filled with whole concept of the video is about being yourself and developing your own style and trends.  It is also about the potential for diversity and pushing back on confined styles dictated by high street fashion. The female artist is singing and walking along a catwalk runway.  She is in her late teens. The video features lots of other young people performing a walk along the catwalk wearing their own style and showcasing their own trends.

Setting/Staging

A catwalk show consisting of curtains and a long catwalk platform.  The artist will remain on the catwalk whilst the others will enter and leave. When the soloist sings the spotlight is on her in the chorus it shines on all the youth crowd.

Props

No props except a microphone for the soloist.

Costume

Everyone is dressed in their own individual style based on their own creativity, interests, culture and subculture.

Narrative

The narrative will build a story about the need to embrace different styles and trends because the world is so diverse. The narrative celebrates individuality of styles e.g. urban, retro and indigenous styles whilst at the same time uniting them as equals. 

Style and visual strands

The key visual strands to the video will be the catch walk and the posing of the teenage models with styles from around the world.  There will be styles from the 50’s 60’s 70’s 80. Styles from all over the world (for example young muslim girls who are currently redefining muslim female fashion with cool headscalves. There will also be a strong visual focus on the soloist when she is singing.

Video

The video fits in with the track because of the music is indie and alternative which echoes the kick back at mainstream fashion. The abstract message of the video will enhance the indie feel of the music. The spotlight will first be on the soloist and as the song gradually builds momentum so will the number of models dressed in the different style increase.  The video will reflect the lyrics of the track.  For example, the words of the chorus are “hey trendsetter” .  As the soloist sings these words she will look at one of the models.  And the camera will go on that model.

Star Image

Her star image is not based on sex appeal but on her indie image evidenced by her uniqueness and individuality. This makes her seem very “cool”.  She connects with young people from many cultures and subcultures who are seeking create their own individual identity.  She is talking about a topic that is highly appealing to young people.
