Representation of gender - wire in the blood

In wire blood gender is represented in numerous ways. For example in the first section of the clip were you see a long shot of the main male character at a distance from the women , you see what the male is wearing , and this scene could replicate the mise-en-scene were you get an insight to what the characters are wearing and the location , lighting and colour .For example firstly the male character is wearing a big black coat , a black shirt a black tie, and black trousers this helps create a serious mood , and the tie implies that he is at work. The man is having a go at the women, which could imply the representation of gender, this also shows how men are dominant over women. You can also see that the camera is jerking around which could replicate that the camera is hand held, plus this could convey the unsteadiness between the man and women. Another way you see how men are dominant over women is through the fact that you see a glimpse of her through  the bars om the fence , almost presenting her behind prism bars  , this shows how the men have power over the women , how the female is trapped through the male gaze. By what the female is wearing you can see she is not trying to attract the male gaze as she is wearing a turtle neck that covers her up so men cannot look at her sexually. The camera is next positioned so that the man is in the background looking over everything the women is doing , if she were to do something wrong the camera angles to make the man look higher and taller than the women , convey a sense that the man is in charge. Notice that whenever the women starts to take charge on the situation the man doesn't like it and he starts to turn and walk away ,however as soon as he does this the women notices and turns and shouts to him saying she needs his help, which is very emotive. this gives the idea that the women cants really do much without men as she calls out needing his help when he tries to leave. the colour of the scene is very dull and dreary which conveys the tension and mood between the women and the man, could link to how the man is quiet the controlling one out of the two.

In the middle of the clip gender is represented through the mother rushing around trying to find someone to look after her child as she is a single mother. this shows the stereo type of a single mother since single mothers are usually seen as people who would struggle especially without the husband. The camera uses a mid-shot to show the facial expressions of the mother as she is worrying. You can also see that in difference to the man, the women's house is very untidy and disorganized, other than the mans is very tidy , but the same as the man’s home , the women's house has earthy colours  in her house as well which could imply that she cant live without a man’s influence in her life even though she is a single mother, but in her home the lighting is much warmer which shows that it is a family home. There is a theme of neglect ion since you see the little boy sitting on the stair case alone surrounded by her job because it is all she does which leads to why she forgot the babysitter. When the man comes in you get a shot of the front door open which again reefers to how disorganized and forgetful single mothers can be. When the women then askes the man to stay and look after the child it shows a close up of

In another section of the clip you see a man busting into the door the door of a very run down and old building which shows that the man has power over the situation and the people who are probably in the building. The lighting is quiet dark which could be forbidding to something bad is going to happen , the man then storms through onto the main room of the house. The lighting is very dull colours which is an implication to the serious mood at that moment. The way the man comes through into the house is quiet dominating over the other people in this scene, and this is shown through most of the men being sat down and he is standing up, this dominance and control is is also shown through his overpowering one of the other men by smashing his head into a thin wall making it break, this again shows how he is alpha male , and that he is in charge. this idea is quiet stereo typical of a man as they are seen quiet over powering , especially over women. Another trait to this serene is how the the camera keeps flickering around the alpha male of the group which could represent the tension, there is also only found noise so all you can here is this scene is the man talking aggressively and the wall breaking when he hits the man into the wall, this all contributes to how he is the dominant one.
