what are homepages and websites and how are they used ?

two different genres of homepages :




this website is targeting viewers who have a love for pop music and possibly fashion and superficial icons. consumers will be attracted to it because Cheryl is adhering towards the 'star image' and that will make consumers want to be like her. Through the use of her face being displayed on the website brings attention to her beauty and looks also then the white bold text of her name sells her as a brand. the colours of the website are bright and vibrant which gives off a positive vibe.

the website follows the convention of pop. There is artificial lighting used top give the artist a glow of perfection such as clear skin and tanning.this helps create a vibrant atmosphere. they have used technical conventions such as close up of Cheryl's face to help build recognition of the artist.
the white colour in the background is symbolic to the website trying to display the attention on her only.

overall ideology of the website is to zone in and have the attention the 'star image' which is Cheryl and focus on her looks. Star image is created through her looks and they way she displays herself. the website is mainly focused on the superficial idea.

another genre of a homepage:



Target audience is for people who like or are interested in Indie alternative music genre. audiences will be attracted to it because its simple and easy to navigate around. they have followed a technical convention of the camera being at a low shot making the two artists look superior and also as though the camera is following them around also one of the artists is face is more at the front and is leaning towards the camera to to maybe help gain recognition of the artist. however the camera is not in focus its at a blur and the sun is shinning right through there faces to create mystery since we can only see half there face due to the bright natural light.  they have followed a symbolic convention through them both wearing quite Indie and retro clothing to emphasize the genre of this album. The natural lighting used helps create a natural atmosphere and symbolic to their chill music.there is use of bold text in front of one of the artist face to suggest that the ficus should be on their new album name. the overall message presented in their album is for them to be appreciated for the music they produce not for what they look like. A star image has been created in this band through their natural and simplistic theme and appeals to an audience that are trendy and into retro fashion.

comparing the two websites :
the similarities  in both different website genres is the use of white light and uplifting colours to create a positive atmosphere and the use of bold text of the name of there album are presented in both of the websites artist faces. However they are both diversely different  this is because they both replicate a different meaning in for example in Cheryl's website she conveying a message across of her audience appreciating her looks and sexuality as opposed to Angus and Julia they are creating a connotation of there audience appreciating their music. Cheryl will have a wider audience and will be more successful because she is using her sex appeal, and body to sell herself and since she is has been on Xfactor and many programs she is all ready very well known.
